We had our final day of WAPS classes before the school holidays, which were very well attended. Throughout the day teachers and students dashed off to the Perth Cultural Centre in the heart of Northbridge for the Propel Youth Arts KickstART Festival. Celebrating National Youth Week 2014, the festival showcased the talents of locals under 25, with a marketplace where local designers, artists and small businesses could sell their wares, as well as entertainment, food, and live music throughout the day.

The Pro Performance Troupe, Competition Troupe and Cheerleaders all performed fantastic routines to the crowd in the James St Amphitheatre outside PICA, who loved the energy and talent of our performers! Well done to all the dancers who participated, and thank you to the friends and family who came down to watch.

Straight after (no rest for some of our team!) WAPS went to Crown Perth in Burswood for the 2014 Bethanie Ball in the Grand Ballroom. An elaborate Phantom of the Opera themed affair, guests enjoyed live music (including a harpist, an opera singer, and live drummers), aerial acrobats, actors, and more. WAPS teamed up with our friends at Kinetica to provide entertainment for the grand finale of the evening – sent to ‘Masquerade’, three dancers in incredible costume (can you recognise any WAPS teachers and dancers under those masks?) perform a Ventian masquerade-inspired routine alongside two talented contortionists against a sumptuous digital ballroom backdrop!

Sunday saw our first day at the West Coast Dance Festival, with Keeley performing her very own fantastic choreography as a soloist, and the WAPS Competition Troupe performing their beautiful Contemporary/Lyrical routine 1000 Miles. Well done to all our dancers for your fantastic effort, and congratulations to the Competition Troupe for coming second in their category – a great achievement, and a memorable first time ever performing as a troupe at comps together! Good luck to all the soloists still to perform in the coming week.
