Contemporary Dance Class

Contemporary DancerAbout Contemporary

A creative, interpretive and free-flowing style combining strong technique in ballet and jazz to produce beautiful and meaningful routines. As seen often on TV show “So You Think You Can Dance”, it is one of the more popular forms of modern dance. Contemporary choreography usually tells a story or portrays a theme and teaches dancers to express emotions and feelings behind their performances. This style is a great accompaniment to ballet dancers as it teaches dancers how to use ballet techniques to extract meaning from dances.

The levels explained:

Adult – Beginners (a.k.a. Level 1): Perfect for ADULT students (age 18yrs+) who are new to Contemporary, or even to dance itself. You will not only be taught dance techniques to help you to grow and develop as a dancer, but you will also learn combinations and routines so you get the full dance experience.
Our instructors are trained to cater for multiple different levels within the same class. Whether you are a complete newbie, or you’re coming back after a break, our instructors will help you to grow your skills at a pace comfortable for you.

Senior/Adults – Intermediate/Advanced (a.k.a. Level 2/3): This class is for senior and adult students (age 15yrs+) who have had at least 2-3 years of consistent contemporary dance training and meet the skills and technical prerequisites of the class.

If you are unsure if you meet the prerequisites for the Level 2/3 class, please contact us to discuss. Alternatively, you can also enrol into the Level 1 class first and our instructors can amend your level if necessary.
